The navigation assessment for the Jiangsu section of the Nantong-Suzhou-Jiaxing-Ningbo Railway has been officially approved by the Ministry of Transport, accelerating the preliminary design phase and laying a foundation for construction within the year. The Jiangsu section has already received approval for special assessments including interchange safety, seismic safety, geological hazards, and mineral resource coverage.
As a prerequisite for preliminary design approval, the navigation assessment faced high demands due to the numerous waterways and busy shipping traffic in the area. The Suzhou Railway Office and Jiangsu Provincial Railway Group overcame pandemic impacts, strengthened coordination, and improved internal management to advance the work. The project passed third-party consultation, review by the Ministry of Transport, and countersigning by multiple departments within a short period and has now been officially approved.
The Nantong-Suzhou-Jiaxing-Ningbo Railway is a major part of China's coastal high-speed railway corridor and an important intercity corridor for the Yangtze River Delta urban agglomerations. With a total investment of 107 billion yuan, it is a significant transportation project designated for construction this year by the Jiangsu Provincial Party Committee and Provincial Government. The route spans about 310 kilometers, with about 300.9 kilometers of new construction, including 135 kilometers in Jiangsu and 165.9 kilometers in Zhejiang.
